Catch-up post... What's been happening at My Vintage?

Well it's been another busy few weeks in My Vintage land. It all started a few weeks ago when we went on a big buying trip, finding lots of lovely vintage stock for the start of winter. Lots of party dresses for the Christmas season, some gorgeous embellished knitwear for the chilly weather, cute vintage skirts including some great tartan pieces, chunky cardigans, vintage coats, vintage shoes, some stunning silk scarves and very cute vintage hats.

Here are a few of my favourites...

We also had some new arrivals from Hell Bunny and Collectif into our retro range - these included dresses, skirts, tops, coats and petticoats - all up to size 22/24.

If, like me, you like statement jewellery then you will also love some of the necklaces that have come into stock recently... They are FABULOUS!

I've also been busily beavering away planning the upcoming pre-Christmas events. On Wednesday the 20th November we are holding one of our very popular Ladies Nights at the shop where we will have complimentary cocktails and cupcakes for everyone PLUS discounted shopping, special deals and exclusive brand new stock arriving just for the night! Myself and my fabulous helpers Katie and Lucy will be on hand to offer style advice to anyone and everyone who wants it too! I'm really looking forward to the night, it's going to be great!

The other exciting event is a Fashion Show that we are holding at Avondale School in Darwen on the 10th of December. Tickets are £5 and available from school or from My Vintage. It's going to be a great night, showcasing lots of different vintage fashion, having a glass of wine and browsing through some of the stalls that will be there on the night. As always, I am here to help with any style guidance you might need.

I'll be bringing you more news on the fashion show in he coming weeks, to keep your eyes peeled!

Bye for now

High Street vs Vintage! Trend Alert!

I've scoured some of the hottest high street fashion and brought you some surprising and equally gorgeous alternatives from the huge range of vintage clothing at My Vintage...

First up is this alternative LBD cut out midi dress from H&M...

I've discovered this beautiful deco inspired designer vintage dress from Janice Wainwright that definitely ticks the same boxes...

http://www.myvintage.co.uk/designer-dresses/designer-vintage-1970s-janice-wainwright-art-deco-style-dress-1416.html

Next up, River Island have brought out some lovely slouchy roll neck jumpers like this one...

But why not grab a vintage alternative? At My Vintage, we have some wonderful vintage knitwear from as little as £10... This roll neck jumper is perfect!

http://www.myvintage.co.uk/10-or-less/womens-vintage-1970s-chunky-roll-neck-jumper-size-16.html
A decent navy blue midi skirt is a great investment this season, and could well be the basis for many of your autumn outfits. This one from River Island is cute...

... but it really is just like a original 1970's vintage skirt just like this one...

Finally, this "boyfriend coat" from New Look screams vintage to me...

Why not go original with this fabulous 1970's vintage coat?

Christmas jumpers have landed at My Vintage!

If you have been anywhere near the high street in the last couple of weeks you will have seen the huge Christmas Jumper invasion!

If you were a follower of My Vintage last Christmas you will remember our amazing range of vintage inspired Christmas jumpers and they are back again this year with even more additions for 2013!

What makes our Christmas jumpers special is that they are made in England from a super high quality soft knit acrylic fabric. This is a smooth fabric that does not itch or scratch and is also very easy to wash.

My Vintage Christmas jumpers are also unisex so you can have his and hers styles too! Our designs are fun, quirky and inspired by the 1970s and 1980s. And the best bit? They are ALL priced at a brilliant £28! What's not to love?!

Still the most popular designs are the snowmen jumpers and the reindeers...

There are some great new designs coming through for 2013 too. In stock now are these awesome styles featuring robot dinosaurs and retro video games!

A good old catch up!

Morning all!

So it's been a hectic few weeks here at My Vintage. At the end of September we had loads of new stock arrive in time for Ladies Night so we were busy beavering away getting that ready for everyone...

Ladies Night arrived on 2nd October and WOW what a busy night we had! From 6pm until late our lovely shop was filled to the rafters with excited, cocktail sipping ladies (who all have excellent taste in clothes shops I must say!) The delicious ginormous cupcakes from local legends Darwen Deli went down a storm too! Everyone got a nice little discount at the till and it was definitely one of our best nights yet. Thank you to every single one of you that came along to join us. We will be holding another one in November so we hope to see you there!

It's also been mega busy at home this week as my son celebrated his 9th birthday at the weekend. I am still struggling with the idea that I have a 9 year old (eeek!) but he had a wonderful day and we all thoroughly enjoyed seeing him so happy and having so much fun :)
The website has been really busy too and we have been adding lots of new things. It's always worth checking the What's New section as we add new items to the site nearly every day. And always a great mix of both original vintage clothing, retro and reproduction clothing, fabulous costume jewellery and vintage and collectables for the home.

Our most exciting new arrivals have landed this week from the USA. A stunning selection of retro dresses, skirts and top in really quirky and fun printed fabrics. They are already proving to be VERY popular and we absolutely love them!

I recently uploaded a video to showcase a few of the different styles that have arrived... They are even better in the flesh but I just had to give you a sneak preview!

The items are being added to the website as we speak, and here are some of my absolute favourites...

For more information on any of these items for for general questions or enquiries, just email me on emma@myvintage.co.uk or find me on Twitter or our Facebook page.

See you soon!

Metallic Trend 2013 the My Vintage Way!

Metallics are big news right now but fear not! This super shiny trend isn't as scary as it might sound...

The key word when it comes to wearing metallic is subtle.

Unless your name is Jessie J, who has got to be one of the only people to carry off this head to toe metallic look...

We have scoured the virtual rails at www.myvintage.co.uk and found some fabulous metallic vintage pieces that are a great way to inject this trend into your A/W wardrobe whilst keeping that all important unique twist.

1980s Vintage Metallic Strand Evening Gown
1980s Vintage Blue Metallic Scarf
1950s Vintage Metallic 2 Piece Suit
1980s Vintage Metallic Skirt
1980s Vintage Gold Metallic Blouse

Add these to more neutral toned down pieces to create a gorgeous look that is right on trend but still individual and totally unique to you.

Shop the Key Autumn/Winter 2013 Trends with My Vintage

As autumn begins to descend upon is,  the next batch of fashion trends are beginning to filter through onto the high street...

We have a lot of repeating trends this season, which is great for wardrobe recycling! We're seeing the return of the mid length skirt, high shine fabrics, leather, animal print and houndstooth print. There are also some great winter florals, dark camo prints, oversize styling and the colour pink is a big deal.

I have scoured the virtual rails at My Vintage HQ and come up with some key pieces currently available from our massive range of vintage clothing that are guaranteed to be bang on trend this autumn/winter season.

Houndstooth

This glorious vintage dress from the 1970s has a great black and white houndstooth print. It features a lovely pointed collar and beautiful short sleeves that fan into angel wings. For this coming season, team with ankles boots, an overcoat and cute scarf et voila!

Pink

A stunning and authentic 1950s dress is never not on trend, but this gives a nod to the biggest colour of the moment. A lovely pale candy pink that could be styled up for the evening or down for day wear. A real treasure!

Animal Print

Why be subtle? We love a bit of animal print and this vintage Ralph Lauren dress is simply perfect! Ruche the sleeves as we have here and add a belt. Alternatively, layer up with a cute sweater for an alternative look.

Leather

Work the leather trend again this season by re-inventing your angle. This vintage leather top would look amazing with some fitted jeans or coloured trousers and statement boots.

Midi Skirt

There aren't many boxes that this little beauty doesn't tick! A beautiful vintage midi skirt in vivid winter florals. I love it and I'm pretty sure that you will too!

I'd love to know which of my picks is your favourite... Let me know in the comments below!

Top UK Retail Website Accreditation!

Chances are you haven't heard of Sitemorse, but what they do is actually very clever.

They are an independent organisation with a unique software platform that allows them to analyse websites for overall compliance, quality and usability.

Every quarter they publish a list of the top 500 retail websites in the UK - a league table for online shops if you will.

Now the exciting bit...

Our lovely little website has only gone and been placed at number 71... 71st place out of ALL the retail websites in the UK - that's a lot of websites!

We're also the only vintage website in the report. It's actually pretty flabbergasting when you think about it deeply. Little old us!

What puts this all into perspective is some of the companies that we have ranked higher than...

Next
Kurt Geiger
Armani
H&M
River Island
New Look
Debenhams
Harvey Nichols
Matalan
Oasis
Mulberry

I could go on...

But our lovely little online vintage and retro haven has beat them all!

You wouldn't normally expect to feel proud about coming 71st in anything, but when you look at the whole picture here it really has got us beaming from ear to ear!

Thanks for all your continued support and custom. We will continue to get bigger and better, keep telling your friends, Facebook pals and Twitter followers about us.

Vintage and Cake... A match made in heaven!

What is it about us vintage lovers? Almost all of us seem to love cake too!

I'm not complaining, it's one of my favourite things to talk about and if you agree then I am sure you'll have been just as giddy as I was last night for the return of The Great British Bake Off on BBC2.

GBBO is now a national institution, the combination of amazing baking, the brilliant Mel and Sue, a bit of Mary Berry and of course the silver fox Mr Paul Hollywood, the show is without question one of the best things on TV.

The bar has definitely been raised this series, last night was the first show but already the standard is way high. I can't wait to see what the bakers come up with for the rest of the series!

My love of cake combined with my love of vintage fashion got me to thinking what kind of dress related cakes were out there so of course my immediate port of call was Pinterest.

All I can say is prepare for your jaw to drop. Pinterest assures me that these are all actual cakes...

How could you bring yourself to eat these works of art? These master cake makers are real artists and I am fascinated by what they do.

We have an extraordinary cake shop in our town called Darwen Deli. They make celebration cakes and amazing cupcakes to boot. They produce the very best combination of look and taste that I have ever had the pleasure of scoffing. And there have been lots! I always buy their cupcakes for the ladies nights we have here...

The owners and staff there are now good friends of mine and recently when my little shop celebrated it's first birthday, Julia and Laura surprised me with this AMAZING three tier My Vintage themed cake, I still can't believe it!

It's got to be the nicest pressie I've ever had!! I'm sure you'll agree...

You can learn more about Darwen Deli at www.darwendeli.co.uk

Have I made you hungry? I'm off to find some cake...

Until next time
