A totally breathtaking dress from the super luxe Oleg Cassini. Mesmerising flapper-esque cocktail dress in classic black with all-over beading and intricate gold and bronze sequinning to front, back, sleeves and hem. Sexy cut out back and dipped front neckline with beaded shoulder waterfalls. Off-centre front hem split to show a little leg. Fully lined rayon with unlined semi sheer sleeves. Intricate and luxurious. A truly outstanding vintage piece - just made for a super special occasion. Non stretch. You will NOT be disappointed!

Designer Vintage Clothing Profile - Versace

In the early days Gianni Versace's mother supported the family with her small tailor shop, its there, Versace learned everything about making clothes and soon he designed apparel himself, which was sold in his mother's shop. Then, Versace acquired additional skills working in fabric procurement positions. He got his first chance to show his skills when designing a collection for Fiori Fiorentini, a Lucca, Italy based company in 1972.

In the following years, Versace designed for the Italian fashion labels De Parisi, Genny (for whom he would later be working again), Callaghan, Alma, and then for Complice in 1974. The work for Complice, which he fully conceived himself marked the first occasion where his own name was included in the brand name.

In 1978, Versace opened his first boutique in Milan's Via della Spiga, still selling other labels to complement his own collections. Soon, with the growing popularity of the Versace style, boutiques started to spread across the globe.

In 1985, Versace added the Instante label to his fashion empire. Similar in style to Versace couture, but targeted at a less affluent and younger crowd.

The Versace style has become a trademark of its own. If one seeks to characterize Versace, you can always point to Giorgio Armani. Versace is everything Armani is not. He is known for striking colours, materials, and cuts. His collections for men and women are sexy to the point of vulgarity. On first sight his work seems to reflect the typical Italian grandezza. On second sight, he seemed to draw only from those images (like the neo classicistic ornaments in his prints), pushing them to the limits, in order to question any prevailing common agreement on good taste.

When designing new products, Versace gave only a vague sketch of his ideas. Then, his assistants were responsible for transforming them into wearable garments.

Since his days as a fabric buyer, Versace enjoyed travelling. In his new creations, he incorporates the impressions he gains while travelling.

In 1997, Versace was shot to death in front of his mansion in Miami, Florida. Versace's killer is allegedly a serial killer, who committed suicide in Miami short after Versace's murder. In September 1997, Gianni Versace's brother Santo Versace was announced the new CEO of the Versace holding. Gianni's sister Donatella Versace is the new head of design. Donatella was already in a creative position, designing for the Versus label. Sole heiress of Gianni Versace is Donatella's eleven year old daughter Allegra. Her son Daniel inherits Gianni's collection of paintings. Part of Gianni Versace's heritage are his luscious mansions at Lake Como, Italy, in Milan, Italy, in New York City, and the mansion in Miami were Versace was killed.

A stunning piece of fashion history from one of Zandra Rhodes' earliest labels. Gorgeous statement collar was so ahead of it's time, in Tudor style circle frill. So on trend for this season too! Classic black button front straight column dress, in luxurious rayon fabric. The cut and style is everything you expect from this fantastic designer, even down to the multi-button cuffs this dress just feels heavenly. Looks fantastic with or without a belt, as shown in our pictures. Non stretch.

Stunning fifties frock that would be a sensational alternative wedding dress, or be the perfect vintage dress for prom. Funky crossover top with buttons and fixed waist leads to full circle skirt with almost never ending fabric. Would be amazing with a netted underskirt or hooped skirt too. Heavyweight fabric with woven shimmering silver thread. Structured but still comfortable. Superb quality. Non stretch.

Ossie Clark - Designer Vintage Clothing Profile

Continuing our series profiling some of the great names in collectable vintage clothing from the 1920s to the 1980s including Ossie Clark, Zandra Rhodes, Lanvin, Versace, John Bates, Chanel and many many more.

This week we profile the Iconic Ossie Clark...

One of the most influential designers of the 60s and 70s, Ossie dressed the famous and the fashionable in designs as flamboyant as his personality. Clark didn’t have a head for business but he knew how to make women feel beautiful, earning his singular talent the title of ‘the master cutter,’ and a client list that reads like a who’s who of the post-war international jet-set: Twiggy, Penelope Tree, Marianne Faithfull, Talitha Getty, Bianca Jagger, Jean Shrimpton, Elizabeth Taylor and Liza Minnelli.

He met his future wife and collaborator Celia Birtwell when they were both art students in Manchester; they went on to become one of the most successful design teams of the period, with Birtwell designing the prints that Ossie scissored into his trademark floating dresses. Clark’s 1965 MA graduation collection from the Royal College of Art, inspired by Bridget Riley’s Op Art discovered during a trip he took across America with friend David Hockney, launched his career and his clothes were featured in Vogue months after his student show.

Inspired by the glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age and stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Ossie Clark’s dresses subtly retro evening dresses were sensuous and sinous, often bias-cut to cling to the body. His ensuring trademarks were painstaking workmanship and technical expertise, and he often boasted he could make anything, from a bra, to a dress, to a pair of shoes, entirely with his own hands. Unfortunately, this technical wizardry was also coupled with complete disregard for all financial matters: despite investing his considerable talents in a number of design labels, Clark was bankrupt and almost invariably scrabbling for funds throughout his career.

• 1965 Graduated with the only first class degree awarded that year
• Three months later his graduation collection appeared in the August issue Vogue
• 1966 Creative collaboration begins with Celia Birtwell designing for Alice Pollock’s boutique, Quorum
• 1968 Quorum is burdened with debt and sold to fashion house Radley where the duo continue to design a diffusion line for the high street
• 1969 Clark and Birtwell get married
• 1975 Divorced from Celia
• 1996 Ossie is killed by his former lover Diego Cogolato
